They start working for a man named Ajit Nayak (Anupam Kher), who is an influential and well-respected businessman in the financial market. All is going well until one day Vijay sees Ajit sucking on a lollipop when he was supposed to be fasting, which leads him believe that Ajit is not as pious or innocent as he looks. Then he comes to know from his boss's sister, Aarti (Raima Sen), that Ajit is illiterate and works purely on the basis of trust and honesty. Vijay then hatches a plan to expose him. He brings some henchmen of a local don to confront Ajit that they want a large amount of money from him. Trying to save himself, Ajit approaches Chambal Bhai (Kiran Kumar) for help. It is then revealed that Chambal Bhai is merely a front for Ajit himself, who has been running an illegal empire on the name of Chambal Bhai's honesty and trustworthiness in financial market which has been unknown to everyone around him. He then takes help of his assistant, Khatri (Arjun Rampal) and entraps one of Chambal Bhai's henchmen, Pandey (Ravi Kissen), by making him drink too much in a bar after which he is arrested for drink-driving. The other henchman, Vardhan Singh (Varun Badola), who is also Ajit's son, advises his father to give up this illegal business or face the consequences. When Ajit refuses to give up his empire, Vardhan leaves him and joins hands with Pandey to expose Ajit. Vijay and Abhi join them as well. Ajit's wife, Indu (Juhi Chawla) also leaves him because of his problems with alcohol and is not able to give him a child due to that. Ajit now becomes desperate to know from Chambal Bhai what he should do with Pandey now that he has been arrested. He is told that only Mr. Sanjeev Sinha (Nana Patekar), a famous lawyer can help them now as Pandey is too powerful a man to be arrested by police. He is given a phone number which he has to make a call to. Ajit dials the number and tells who he is and what has happened. He then requests Sanjeev that if he can help him, then he should use all his powers and help them get Pandey's confession.
